Steel: the default choice, and why it works in the rain

A steel garage door in Western Washington holds up because of its coating, not the steel itself. The sheet is hot-dipped in zinc, then primed and painted, so water never touches bare metal. The weak points are predictable: a deep scratch, a bottom rail sitting in a puddle where the driveway slopes toward the house, and a bottom seal worn flat so the door rests on wet concrete.
